Who are we?
Mother and Daughter duo Sonya + Danni started up Jefferson Crafts years ago, Jefferson Crafts takes fabric that would have otherwise gone to landfill and turn it into reusables for the home. Sonya has always been passionate about the environment and brought Danni to also be just as passionate. We want to try and encourage everyone to make small sustainable changes in their lives. Jefferson Crafts started by trading on markets, we would be on St. Albans main market, travel around to local vegan markets and other such markets. We travelled around for a few years. Then we found a more Permanent Place at Watford market. Watford Market is shipping containers, we were there for a couple of years however we missed our hometown and home support from St. Albans, we decided we needed to do something bigger than Jefferson Crafts. From this came Jefferson Eco CIC.
Jefferson Eco CIC can now be found at 46 London Road, St. Albans, AL1 1NG. Sonya and Danni took on a third director Fiona and opened up a shop, the shop consists of three floors, the ground floor an eco shop where we support small businesses across Hertfordshire. We do this by not charging per shelf space we take a small percentage of the takings that week, meaning the small business is benefitting and is not paying out high prices to showcase their products which they cannot afford. From running Jefferson Crafts we found this to be the common way shops do this which is unsustainable for small businesses as you do not often see the return. On the next floor up we have our workshop space, here we run lot of different workshops, some run by us and some run by local artists. Please head over to our workshop page to see our full list of upcoming workshops. We also house The Green House upstairs. The Green House is another small local Community interest company (CIC). The Green House are an eco hub who can talk to you about retrofitting your house and the small environmental changes you can make. Our third floor is just for storage. If you have not been down to see us yet please come down we love to see returning customers and new ones.
Our Mission?
Jefferson Crafts is a family run business that is passionate about the environment. We understand that everything has a carbon footprint. We are on a mission to help everyone reduce their carbon footprint as much as possible. To do this we take fabric that would have otherwise gone to landfill and repurpose it into reusables for the home, giving waste a second life. Our products are easy swaps to help people reduce their waste and cut down on the use of plastic and chemical filled products that damage the environment. To keep up to date we watch climate change programmes such as seaspiracy and cowspiracy. We also listen to podcasts such as the Deborah Meaden show and Vegan business tribe, which help us become more educated so that we can to educate the general public as this is such as mission for us, we really want to make a change and help others make a change.
We now have expanded our mission through Jefferson Eco CIC and would like to make sure we are trying to help anyone from any background access sustainable ways of living. We are trying to achieve this by offering free/low cost workshops such as clothes mending. We are working towards offering low cost reusable party kits.
